Q2 2024 iOS Film & Television App Insights for the US Market

In the second quarter of 2024, the US market for Film & Television iOS applications saw varied performances across the board. Here's a brief look at the trends for the top 5 contenders, based on data from Sensor Tower.

Netflix experienced a slight dip in downloads starting at 5.6M in the first week of April to 4.3M in the first week of June, before rebounding to 5.5M by the end of June. Weekly active users showed a similar pattern, beginning at 461K, dipping to 410K, and then slightly increasing to 435K. Revenue remained relatively stable, with minor fluctuations, averaging around $25M.

Amazon Prime Video saw its downloads begin at 3.9M, with minor fluctuations, ending the quarter at 4.7M. The weekly active users started at around 31K, peaked at 32K in late April, and settled at 31K by the end of June. The revenue for Amazon Prime Video showed a modest increase from $18M to $20M in mid-June, before ending the quarter at around $18M.

For Disney+, downloads started at 4.1M, dipped to 2.9M in early June, and then increased to 3.6M by the end of the quarter. Weekly active users saw a decline from 189K to 165K. Revenue trends were more pronounced with a starting figure of $80M, a peak at $101M in early June, and closing the quarter at $87M.

RTLplay did not generate revenue this quarter. Downloads for RTLplay were highest at the beginning of April at 1.3M, with a significant peak at 3.4M mid-April, but ended the quarter lower at 812K. Weekly active users peaked at 7.6K in mid-April but saw a decrease to 6.2K by the end of June.

Lastly, ReelShort - Stream Drama & TV had its downloads start at 4.5M, with a significant drop to 464K by the end of April, followed by a recovery to 1.4M by the close of the quarter. Weekly active users followed a similar trend, starting at 6.5K, dropping to 2.2K, and then rising to 3.3K. Revenue started at around $11M, dipped to $4.8M, and experienced a rise towards the end of the quarter, finishing at $7.2M.
